The state of Himachal Pradesh sits beneath the valley of Jammu & Kashmir. This location is an ideal place to visit if you want to step away from the humdrum of city life. Except for Shimla, the entire state comprises a majority of simplistic rural settlements that offer you a taste of the simplistic life. Himachal is riddled with peaks like the Kinnaur Kailash Peak, Indrasan Peak, Deo Tibba & Hanuman Tibba Peak and Shitidhar Peak. Mighty tributaries like the Beas, Satluj, Yamuna, Ravi & Chenab pour through the crevices of this picturesque state. Its elevation ranges from 450 meters to 6500 meters, infusing in differing types of weather conditions location to location, depending on their height.

Himachal Pradesh translates to the Abode of the Snow. Remnants of colonial influence are visible through some of the architectural remains found mainly in the station of Shimla. The village of Bir is famous for its Tibetan inhabitants who migrated from their homeland and settled here. The region is dotted with breathtaking monasteries and is the best location to indulge in some authentic Tibetan dishes like momos and soupy noodles. Other dishes like spiced lotus stems, fat stuffed steamed bread, and savory lentil soup are worth checking out as well.

HISTORY OF HIMACHAL PRADESH

The region of Himachal was inhabited by tribes like the Koili, Dagi, Dhaugri, Dasa, Khasa, Kinnar & Kirat, who were present in the Himalayan regions since prehistoric times. Himachal Pradesh saw the advent of many rulers and dynasties like the Gupta Empire, the Delhi Sultanate, the Kingdom of Gorkha, Mahmud Ghaznavi, Timur, Sikander Lodi, Amar Singh Thapa, and more. The local chiefs who ruled small kingdoms in the premises of the Himachal Pradesh supported the British throughout their term and offered their support during the times of rebellion as well, like the Mutiny of 1857.
